Other than taking it down to the bow shop, anyone buy their own device to test draw weight? If so, can you recommend a cost effective device?

    THANKS!

Any scale will work. I've seen some cheaper handheld bowscales as well.

I've been using a hand held fish scale. I think it goes to 70 pounds. I just hung it up in my garage when I want to check a bow weight, mostly my sons bow since he growing and every few months wants to check his poundage when we crank it down a little. He's up to 50 now.

I've spend a bunch on scales over the years. The best, most accurate one I have found was a luggage scale at Wal-Mart for $10. It's pretty much spot on.

that's exactly what I need it for. my 2 little guys are turning it up a bit every 2 months and they HAVE to know right away what they're at. great you have your son out there too. Nothing better.

I bought a little bow scale myself because every bow shop I've gone to that tested the weight on my bow was a few ilbs off from the other shop.

Yup, going to have to buy a luggage scale after work now. Great post.

I bought a bow specific one at a garage sale one. Paid $5 for it. It's awesome as long as you don't use it. It doesn't work past about 55#

Could you tell me what scale that is specifically?

Can't find it on their website.

I got a bow scale for $25 a few years back. I don't recall the brand. It has a looped hook so the string won't come off and an indicator that tells me the maximum weight pulled without having to look will pulling.

I think someone on Archery Addix told me about the luggage scale a year or two ago. Maybe it was Trial153

So What? You just pull it like a thumb release? or hang it like a regular scale?
