Odd question... So I just got my mount back and put up on the wall yesterday- I put it up right next to a different mount that has been there a few years.

Not exactly sure why.... But our dog is absolutely obsessed with the new mount and will not settle down because of it. Since it was put up yesterday she has not stopped panting and has not stopped whining - She even starts barking for no reason. I held her up and let her sniff it to see if that would help but to no prevail. She sleeps with our parents EVERY night, but I woke up this morning and she was sleeping on the couch next to the mount. She always comes when we offer her treats... Since the mount has been put up she will come for her treat and go back to the mount immediately.

Not exactly sure what to do. Will probably just have to wait it out and let her get used to it?

Anyone else have an issue like this?

That is pretty wild! I have never seen that before. Definitely something about it has her attention. I don't have an answer for that one .

My dog did the same thing for maybe 2-3 days. Just kept telling him to leave it and he eventually forgot about it.

That's pretty funny. Just think if you ever get a coyote mount!

Pretty crazy, I'd think she'd get used to it and forget about it eventually

Is this a Lab? I have a Lab and he seems more sensitive to things like that. When I was skinning my buck this past fall he would not rest until it was in the freezer and out of sight.

Maybe there are smells still on your mount from the taxidermist that your dog doesn't like?

I have never had a dog with this issue but I have to friends that had dogs with these issues. One was a Lab and wouldnt go outside through the patio door after the living room furniture was moved. The other was a golden that wouldnt use the door through the kitchen when they had stuff hanging on the fridge. Not sure what causes it but seems it is an issue that affects some dogs. Both overcame the problem but took some time.

I have two labs and a redbone and every once in a while one of them will notice my one mount and growl at it for a minute. Usually they will move on quickly though. However when my wife was going through cosmetology school she would bring home a mannequin head and the two labs would go berserk. Barking and growling until it was out of sight. Hopefully your dog just forgets about it soon.

I would keep an eye on him for sure. I have had my Chocolate for 8 years and he got a bug up his butt a few weeks ago and decided to "retrieve" my musky mount. First time he has access to any of my mounts when I haven't been home and he did this. Just saying, I love dogs but I don't trust them with mounts.

Yeah....I had a few more words than that at the time. That was the last muskie I caught with my grandpa before he passed.

That's the funny thing, I have a bear, turkey, 4 deer mounts and 4 fish and never has he even shown a whiff of interest in any of them until the musky incident. I don't want to hijack this thread with my stuff but like I said, just keep an eye on him.
