I have leased a new piece of property this year as part of a hunt club and I have a question. Much of the wooded areas have been prescribed burned in the past several years and a great deal of the area is native grasses and blackberry bushes that have come back. The blackberry bushes have come back pretty thick in some spots. Do deer bed down inside these blackberry thickets or do they tend to skirt around them? The SC Gobbler
Although I have never seen deer bedding in these thickets, because I don't have any in my area, I would definitely say that they would, especially if there isn't anywhere else due to the burning. However, depending on how big and how many thickets are on the property, you may draw some deer or you may lose some; if there is/isn't enough room for all of them. If nothing else, do some hinge cutting and make some bedding areas to your advantage. Goodluck
Deer love thickets, they will be in there for sure. I love hunting thick places because anywhere that is thick, the deer love.
