Yesterday, near my hometown, a father who goes hunting on his land accidently shot dead his 13 years old son. A buckshot round killed the boy instantly. Apparently, the father think that his son, who were on his way to a rendezvous with his friends, was an game animal. Given the advantage in distance and killing power, many gun hunters often shoot on vague shadow among the bushes. Especially in a dense tropical jungle and bush in my country where opportunities are fleeting. Of course, bowhunters cant do that. Since bowhunter need to be closer to their prey, and they also need to openly see their prey in order to target specific vital area, the chance of bowhunter to accidently shoot other human by mistake is smaller. ps: Mind you i said smaller, not non-existent. So safety first guys.
That's not an accident.......it's negligent homicide. He should go straight to prison. The FIRST thing they teach you is to know your target and beyond. He knew neither. I feel bad for you if people shooting at sounds and shadows is common where you hunt because nut jobs like that are usually the exception not the rule. I wouldn't even set foot in woods filled with idiots like that. I wish every judge would DEMAND an answer to this question from every person who "accidentally" shoots a person and says they thought it was an animal. "Where on the animal were you aiming sir?" Case closed........rot in jail. I feel horrible for the dead kid and his poor mom and relatives. Dad???......not at all. Hope he gets what he deserves. That poor boy sure didn't.
Well, it's not quite often, but often enough to be concern about. Last year, another father, a pig farmer, shot his son. They first saw someone tried to break in into the barn. The idiot send his son to take a look, and when the son running back, he shot him, thinking he's a thief.
See the bold above. If you hunt during your states deer gun season I promise you you're hunting around people like that. I've heard guys go through an entire box of shells in a morning!
That is very sad. It happened in my county two years in a row.one guy killed his 15 year old son the same way and the other was last year with a duck hunter he turned in his jon boat to fire at some ducks quickly and shot his partner point blank in the head. its really sad and disturbing. Thats one reason i bow hunt only and we only allow bowhunting on our properties theres to many lose cannons and to many people dont think before they act.
Sad story. It's too bad there are people out there that will shoot at anything that moves. It gives the hunting community a black eye. Prayers sent for the child's family.
I used to hunt state land growing up so I'm sure I've been near a few in my day. All the more reason I enjoy the 350 acres of private land we have now.........just the peace of mind knowing I don't have to be worried about my brothers and dad is worth it alone.
I just have seeing events like this called hunting "accidents". There is nothing accidental about what happened.
What a tragedy, God bless that family. Did have a father son near me years back hunting with cross bows walking a corn field. Father shot the son by "accident" mistaking him for a deer through the rows. Realized what he did and shot himself both died in the corn field. These things seem to be happening more and more often in our community...
Please be careful with what you say....this is an exaggeration. BTW, I was almost shot once ....but it was a guy with a bow...
very sad story. theres people like that out there. had a guy shot toward me during are gun deer season. I was in plain sight to.and I just shot my own deer mins before they shot my way.they were doing some type of deer drive.
I just cannot understand how anyone can mistaken a human for a game animal. I love to hunt and shoot animals as much as anyone I know, but the kill has never been so important to me that I do not make confirmed visual of my target. In fact I want to see what I am going to shoot because I know more than likely I will be passing anyway.
