Hunted Ocseola turkey's last weekend in a new Big Mikes blind and although their shoot through screens I just didn't feel comfortable with the concept. The screen seemed loose in some areas and I just couldn't see an arrow flying true through it. Do you guys shoot through the screens of your ground blinds and if so does it effect the flight of the arrow and how much?
Never have / never will I hate hunting from a blind in general though, I prefer to use something natural to build a makeshift blind whenever possible. I hate the lack of visibility. I'm out hunting afterall, I want to be able to enjoy my surroundings.
I know people that have and had luck but I kinda feel the same way you do about it. I usually just take it off of the windows I plan to shoot out of. I shoot mechanical bh's though too so that plays into my decision.
IMO, if you wear black and keep your windows open only enough to shoot through there is nothing that is going to spot you in there anyway. I've gotten away with murder in those blinds when set up correctly.
This will be my first year from hunting out of a ground blind and I'm the kind of person to spend hours researching every last detail. That being said, from all of the Youtube videos and forums I've read, I will not be shooting through the screen. Like BJE80 said, wear black, keep the sun at your back and only open the necessary window(s) and you will be virtually undetectable.
I have heard of many people shooting through them with no problems. Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk
Why use a full blind for turkeys? Why dont you use a half style blind thats what i use its 2 pounds only no windows or stuff to deal with and there 25 bucks .I hate shooting through blind screens also.
I feel the same. This is my first year hunting from a blind. I'm hunting with the land owner together in the blind so we have some windows open in front and a few slots open in back. I think it would be better hunting alone in the blind but it's also good camaraderie with the owner. We're trying to get a double on film. He's hunting with a shot gun.
Fixed blade heads will cut right through the mesh and not affect the shot at all. Mechanicals can be a different story. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
I don't shoot through them because I don't like to look through them. That and some things just don't work with them. Some things I do is face the blind so the sun isn't beating through the front windows. Leave all back windows closed if I can. Wear dark cloths. Sit back as far away from the front window as I can.
Which makes sense if the screen is pulled tight but some of these screen have slack in them so I figured the loose screen is going to move before the BH starts cutting through thru the fabric and would move the arrows flight.
I don't think so. Arrow is moving fast enough it shouldn't matter. Similar to bullet making a hole in glass instead of shattering it.
I've tested it plenty and never had an issue with a fixed head. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
I shoot through them with a shotgun :D Shooting a bow, I always keep the windows down that I plan on shooting through.
I would just eliminate the whole problem and get a half style blind there awesome for bow hunting turkey. They have telescopic legs so are adjustable for different heights and situations. I use one and back up on a tree or 2 as a full circle. They work great and are only 25 bucks ive even shot deer behind it. I can post a pic if you guys dont know what it is or wanna see one ive had good luck with them and there so light weight for moving around and compact.
