I have a few things that were weird I have stumbled upon. The one I will never forget is a climber stand that was at the base of a tree in a swamp. Tree was so old and rotted it was only about 10 ft tall. the rest broke off and had rotted away under the water. The stand looked like it had been there for 20 years. First thing I thought of due to me hunting on military bases is this guy left it and got deployed or could have died in an accident. It was an eerie moment not really knowing what happened to the guy that left it out there so many years ago.
In terms of treestand weirdness, i have seen an old oak tree that was massive, id guess the diameter of the tree was easily in the 6-7ft range, maybe a touch more, but not a bit less. It was obviously in no way a climbable tree to hunt out of and someone had put screw in steps going up. At various points they had put some boards nailed into the branches and connected to the main tree i guess for steps, but not sure. Then about 50-60 ft up in the air somebody had built a small platform to hunt from. It was rotted out and falling apart but up in the tree. To have the balls to climb that high and hunt from that platform was impressive. In was in an area that had been cutover sometime ago and im guessing that person wanted to cover the entire cutover, or maybe county... It was stupid high. As far as non treestand weirdness, seen a cow walking through the woods that snuck up on me and stayed in cover until is was rather close... not as weird as some may share, but sure didnt expect a cow sneaking threw the woods.
Love these threads! I enjoy finding old abandoned tree stands. Here's a few pics from what me and my son found scouting and shed hunting. First pic is of a hammer and metal rods from a survey crew 10 years ago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I would not call this weird but more of a confirmation. I had been walking back from a completly unsuccessful day, sun was setting, and I was thanking God for the day, asking him for guidance and if at all possible a Monster Buck. I was flat wore out and still had a good mile or more back to the truck. I was in prayer and I looked down at this. I gave thanks and felt renewed. I took a photo and thought about packing the Rock out but thought it should remain where it lay. I am 100% sure I would not be able to relocate this even if I tried, it was truly a needle in the haystack. He who has eyes let him see.
It got a little hairy when I stumbled into meth dump sight and meth-heads were NOT happy to see a stranger.
A small pot farm. The old tree stands are interesting too. These were some oddities from the woods this week.
I work in forestry, so I could probably have my own thread on the topic... Old chair 15 feet up a tree Older broadhead Blair Witch doll Doll cemetery...there were about 40 of them Decapitated squirrel Horse skeleton Boxer(?) skull...looks like it took a blow to the right eye
That's all I have pics of right now. The rest are cool finds really. https://www.facebook.com/airenlow/media_set?set=a.728756435602.1073741835.150100439&type=1
Last week while shed hunting I came across a beagle pup. She was in a sewer drain 6ft deep. Rescued her and contacted her owner as she had tags on. She was being trained and ran off. Glad I found her cause she would of died.
God bless you! Never did find my lab cross that came up missing a while back. I'm glad one of these stories had a happy ending! I came across a covey of quail this afternoon while shed hunting, at this point that's about like finding the lost dutchman mine around here. Had over thirty birds in it too!
Josh, where exactly did you see all that craziness? Since you are near me, I want to stay away from those woods lol
I hope those quail flew this was when they came up. Haven't seen any in years! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
Weirdest thing I've ever stumbled across was some dude doing his woman right off of the trail I have to use to get to my stand. This was Public land, go figure.
