I have been making some homemade decapitation style turkey broadheads similar to the gobbler guillotine. The blades are made from old reshaped jigsaw blades welded into notches cut into a 1/2 inch diameter metal rod welded to a screw that matches the arrow insert. It flys pretty well but the blades are not too sharp. Ive tried to sharper them but i cant get them extremely sharp. Do yall think that these would still be effective tips despite being a little dull? I figure that a 400 grn arrow going 280 fps is at the verry least going to break its neck. I think that it should still take the head off. Im planning on doing some tests to see how well it cuts/bludgeons. What materials would accurately siimulate a turkey neck?

I'm pretty sure you can buy frozen turkey necks at the grocery store. If not any type of meat should do. I would imagine even a banana would give you a good idea of your broadhead's performance. Good luck!

Ya ill post some pics on monday when i can get back out to the shop. Ill have to check the stores and see if they sell turkey necks. Im thinking that if i put a bit more time in i could get them a bit sharper. Either way if it works it sure beats spending $30 + for 2 of the factory ones when i spent $2 and some effort.

Well here is one I've been working on. the blade diameter is just above 4 inches on this one so its pretty big. I still have to weld up the end and tack the screw into place but you can see what I'm doing. its not perfect but for using nothing but a hacksaw, drill press, and a grinder it looks pretty good. it is really heavy (around 275 grains) so I might make a new design to try and make it a bit lighter. I might try to replicate the magnus bullhead as this one was designed like the gobbler guillotine. once I get this one welded up ill see how it shoots and keep ya'll informed.

I suspect a dull jigsaw blade at 275 fps would do the job on a turkeys neck just fine.

I made one earlier but i just used epoxy and didnt weld it so it wasnt very strong and a blade fell out after a few shots. For those few shots though it flew pretty good. When i shoot 100 grain tips this 270 grain tip drops a bit so id have to move my sight up a bit or compensate for that when im shooting. Ill see if i can find some of those exacto blades they look like they would probobly work well. I wont have access to a welder untill tuesday. So on tuesday ill weld up the 4 blade one i posted pics of and take a few shots then ill weld up a 3 blade one i started earlier today that has removable blades and shoot it. Ill be sure to post the results. Haha i like the name!
