I've tried several of them but they were too heavy and bulky. I want to wear one this year and wondered if anyone has some suggestions. Thanks.
I picked up an ultra lite for $55 from HSS. I also have the HSS bowhunter harness as well. Does not really matter what kind you get as long as you wear one.
I got the Tree Spider Micro Harness Love it. It's all in what feels good to you. I sold my HSS ultralite after getting this one. As long as you got one, thats the main thing. This one is way more comfortable to me. Get one that fits good to you. Micro Harness | Tree Stand Safety Harness | Hunting Safety Harness | Tree Spider
Big big fan of the Muddy Safeguard Harness. Extremely light, easy on and off and you get everything you need with it.
I have used the Muddy harness, tree spider, HSS vest and ultra lite and I like the Muddy by far the best.
The above post talk about how comfortable and light they are. None mentioned how they feel when one hangs from one. After trying hanging from your current harness for less than five minutes, please so you don't get suspension trauma, then tell us how great they are. Please don't bring up the suspension trauma belts as they are useless if one is unconscious. Now try any brand Rock climbing harness. They pull the straps away from the femoral artery so they don't cause suspension trauma. The rope remains in front of the user so they can self rescue. Just like how tree surgeons tie in. They keep the rope at the waist and in the front. They are much lighter, more comfortable, easier to put on, are less expensive and Don't cause suspension trauma.
The rock climbing harnesses intrigue me. I seem to recall a company make a "hunting specific" version with a magnet system to pulled the attachment rope around you to the back so it was out of the way while hunting but would pull free in the event of a fall. I like the idea of getting that entire rope attachment system low and out of the way while in the tree.
The company was 20' up. He built a real nice basic harness with a climbing belt. It was a little pricy for what it was but still less expensive a good full body harness. Black Diamond Vario Speed harness is what I'm currently using. Would be perfect if they would sew in D loops on the sides and a lineman's rope. to me that would be the ultimate.
