Hello, I'm considering changing my bowstring on my 2013 Bear Encounter and was curious what brand to look into?. I shoot everyday around 20-30 shots a day. The string length is 92 7/16 " and the cable is 31 13/16". I appreciate your help towards this request. Best Regards. Rafael Moriel
There is no best...but there are a lot of excellent bow string makers that can get you into the correct product for your needs. Bow string depot (hutch and sons) on this sight ....is just one of many that can help you out.
I've always shot Zebra bowstings on my Mathews, but I just ordered my first Winners Choice bowstring and cable. I reviewed a few threads like this a few weeks ago and it seemed like everyone was happy with theirs.
I have a Winner's Choice on my bow... excellent string and cables. However, my next one will be ordered from Hutch (Bow String Depot). I've heard nothing but raves about his products. I also get to actually TALK to the string/cable maker, ask questions and receive suggestions or advice to enhance the performance of my rig.
The best thing I can say there are a lot of builders out there that can build a good string set. But you need to be able to ask questions and get answers. These are questions string makers should ask the customer. 1. What type of shooting? (target, hunting or both) 2. What is your draw weight? (to determine the strand count) 3. What bow? (some bows have more serving material Mathews and need a good material) 4. Is it hard on servings? (Pse,s on the cam side are hard on servings) All these help me a string maker determine what to use for string material, serving material and the needs of a customer. Hutch
Same here!!! Look no further, Bow String Depot has got you covered! Hutch just made me a set also and I couldn't be happier! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hutch, I'm curious, what difference does it make if the bow is primarily target or hunting on what string you make for it?
Bowstring Depot, Hutch that posted above. Stay away from the Big companies if you want a quality string. That is just from my experience. I've shoot a lot of different ones....Hutch builds the best I have shot in 20 years. Here are some pics,
I don't know the best strings but stay away from the Zebra strings they dry out and fray way to easy. I try to wax once a week but with the stock Zebra strings on both of my Mission bows I have to wax them almost every time I go out and shoot. I'm going to try First Sting Bow Strings when I need new one which will probably be soon.
Ahhh! some one who reads. Basically I wouldn't use a couple of string materials on a target shooter. The target shooter shoots way more then a hunter. They need a stable material. Where a hunter can get away with a lesser stable material giving them more speed. Hutch
Zebra's might be a material that is made with a low wax. Easier to build with. I choose not to use a low wax material. Hutch
After seeing the videos on the octane strings I think it would be hard for a small shop to have this kind of tooling and quality. Look at the Bowtech website for more info.
They have bigger equipment but they don't build any different. They need bigger equipment because they mass produce over 450 strings a week. I have air stretchers, manual stretchers, layout jigs and we don't mass produce we build by hand not machine! I have no problem putting my strings against theirs. Hutch
I have to agree with Hutch on that one. Octane strings advertise well....but they aren't what I'd call a quality made. I would rather have a "hand made" quality string any day, than a 100 mass produced ones. I've tried the mass produced....you get a few that are good, then you get a few that aren't. From my experience, I think I got all the not so good ones...lol.
Yeah I have to agree. All the mass produced strings are not so good I've tried so many and none seem to hold up like a handmade string. I have the new zebra trophy string and cable set I've had it a little over a month and the servings on the cable on the cam are already starting to separate a little I've had hand made strings that hold there servings so much better and I think it's cause a hand made is made for your bow and a mass produced is made for every bow even though I shoot alot and hunt a ton I don't think it should be separating already. Id go with with bow string depot I've heard nothing but great things about them I'll be buying a string next month it'll be from hutch.
With the creed being new I would have to ask you where is it separating on the sharpest bends or else where. Hutch
