I pulled out an older Scott's "itty bitty goose neck" release I had and found it much more sensitive than my newer one and I think I like it better, it's just going to take some getting used to. How sensitive do you like your releases to be? Hair trigger. Slight tension. Need a good pull. Or long draw?
Once you try a high end release with NO travel there is no going back Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mine is a 4 finger with an adjustable trigger. I set it for the minimal travel and lightest tension (4oz I think) just to see what it is like. I have shot it over 500 times and don't think I will be changing it. Some people worry about unintentional early releases with it set like that. I have not had that happen even one time. I seem to have far less fliers than I did with a heavier release.
Anyone have a recommendation on a quality high end release? I've always shot bargain releases and I think an upgrade would help me out a ton.
I am fairly new to bowhunting and archery. I have a scott release, I am not sure what model. It came with the used bow package that I bought. What does "no travel" mean? I don't have any experience with releases other than the scott wrist release, and the super cheap Allen brand wal mart special finger release. I definitely prefer the wrist release, but I am not sure about tension or really anythign else. Help me out?
Carter makes fantastic releases (Thanks Tfox) I shoot a RX2, it's fully adjustable for tension and travel, totally changed my shooting. I have mine set light with basically no travel. Only thing I would change is if I were going to hunt with gloves on I would tighten the tension on it vs where it's at now. As is, by the time I could feel the trigger through a glove it would break over. Travel is the the distance the trigger travels from start to break over which releases the arrow.
I can really see no way to execute a proper shot with a light trigger. Punching the trigger would be the only way to execute the shot. No way to pull and aim through the shot. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
Cant complain about my Trufire Hardcore. It did take some getting used to on how the trigger was shapped but it fits into the crease of your finger alot better than a straight tigger.
I'm the opposite. I find with a heavy trigger I am punching it. When it's a hair trigger with no travel I can pull right through. I have a tru-fire hardcore 4. It's on the middle setting, only because when I have the lightest setting it puts pulling it at an odd angle and it doesn't release when I hit the back wall.
The trigger position shouldn't change with a tension adjustment. If it does, I would change releases but that's just me. One should be able to apply pressure to the release as they are aiming and executing a quality BACK TENSION shot. Carter has the best triggers I have ever used. Zero travel and adjustable tension without changing the position of the trigger. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
I hate sensative triggers which is one of the main reasons I still shoot with a deer/bear fur finger tab. I like to feel the release of the string in my fingers. Maybe one day if I find the right release for me I'll make the switch but as they say, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Same advise as picking a bow, go to a reputable dealer and try a few out. Don't blind buy one on the internet because someone else likes it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I shoot a carter 3 finger and most likely will be picking up another 4 finger as well. I use to shoot it with the standard spring which I believe was 42lbs with no travel. I then went up in the weight of the spring due to hunting with gloves on at times and to not accidentally let my arrow fly, but it's still is not the heaviest spring. i think its the next one up from the 42lb spring. Since I made the change I love it, heavy spring with no travel...works great.
