My buddy and I just wrapped up our plans and booked our hunting trip for this fall. We chose an outfitter in extreme northern Missouri who I had several good references on from friends who have hunting with him for years. We'll be there for 7 full days of hunting from November 6-13. Can't see where we'd be doing wrong with those dates. Last year we got burned a little with the weather not cooperating and being too warm in Ohio in late October. We decided to push back a week or two into November to hopefully help out and put us in the midst of the rut. The area we'll be in is Princeton, Mo, Mercer County, about 25 miles south of the Iowa border. Anyone familiar with this area? We're already stoked and ready to go. Its gonna be a long summer..
Should be a good area, from a general POV. I'm not from around there but geographically speaking that's pretty much a hotspot for whitetail. Good luck!
I'm about 75 miles from Princeton, so I don't have any specifics, but you certainly picked the right time to be here. That should be the early stages to the very beginning of the rut. I've killed bucks the last 3 out of 4 years, all around Nov 11 through the 15th.
I have done some hunting right outside of the town of mercer. It was amazing hunting and deer numbers are really good. We rifle hunted it and really didn't hear a lot of other shots so didn't seems to veto high of hunter density as you would have down southern MO. My dad shot his biggest buck to date there. A 160 inch 8 point with a 22 inch spread. I thought it was great hunting so hopefully you have the same experience
muzzy, are you hunting with Tombstone creek? I booked a trip with them in early Dec, I have heard alot of good things and am excited to go especially since the tag includes 2 deer and 2 turkey tags.
I was wondering what outfitter as well. Frogtosser I have hunted with them, they are great guys and have some really good bucks to chase.
Justin, you really need to be nice to me. Remember, I was the only one who came up and talked to you at your booth in Harrisburg. I felt sorry for you standing there all alone all day. ;-)
