So I entered this drawing at The Cabin Fever Expo in Mifflinburg PA. last Saturday without reading what is was all about, I just saw it was a drawing for a cow elk hunt. So I wrote my info down and left, and last night I got a call that said I won. Here's my dilemma, It seems it's one of those high fenced hunts that I disagree with so much being a hunter that hunts public land and actually hunts for my game. They explained how it would work, it would be me in a treestand and them pushing the elk my way for a shot. I know it's free and it would be a lot of meat for the freezer but I just can't get my head around it. What would you do?

I share your exact views but maybe you could ask them that instead of pushing the elk to you, you could go and scout and hunt where you desire - even if it cost you a day of hunting. I still think that would be a lot of fun. Goodluck

I agree with the first poster. I would ask if I could just walk the land and do a spot and stalk hunt

If its something your not comfortable with then don't do it. Free meat is not worth feeling bad about yourself for months. Only do what your comfortable with and then, you can walk around with your head high.

I'm not a fan of high fence hunts either, and certainly wouldn't pay for one for a game animal. I have paid for one to hog hunt. My justification is that the hogs were trapped in the wild, and relocated to the high fence to be exterminated. They are tasty either way. Free meat is free meat if you ask me. I'd go and get my meat. You will still have a good time, it's just a different experience.

You not taking the hunt will not affect high fence hunting. You taking the hunt at least cuts in to their profits a little so you can feel good that all the suckers that pay for the canned hunts filled your freezer.

Don't think of it as hunting. It's 'interactive grocery shopping'.

It would be awesome practice for your setup! And obviously you've never ate elk meat!

Trust your gut and do what you feel is right! Personally I would give it a shot! If you don't someone else will! Plus after you complete your hunt you could always write a review with your pros and cons about your experience!

Try it out and if you don't like it, just don't do it again.

I don't see the problem here. Free meat. I understand not liking high fenced hunts so don't pay for one.

The only money your spending, is the bullet. Elk meat is the best thing on earth. Enjoy what God has givin us. If you feel bad about it, give to people who really need the food. Like charities, homeless people, or.........ME!!!!!!!

If going made you feel bad about yourself for months..... You need to get your head examined!

Just do it! Don't take pictures, just take the packages of meat home!
