In case anyone finds it useful, here is how you can display topographic lines on top of an aerial.

The following link starts Gmap4 (I am the developer) and if you zoom in until the scale in the lower left says 500 ft then you will see topo lines on the Google aerial for anywhere in the U.S.

    http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gma...opography_lines&layers=34,35&transparent=true

To start zooming in to your area of interest, try Menu ==> Search to get close and then zoom/pan. To manually zoom, use your mouse wheel or the sliding control near the upper left corner of the map.

To turn the topo lines on/off, click the button in the upper right corner of the map then scroll down to the Overlay section and click "topography_lines".

The topo line data comes from a GIS (Geographical Information Service) server run by the feds. That GIS data displays the topo lines on top of any basemap.

The Gmap4 homepage has a FAQ, examples, quick start info (in the Help file) and more to quickly get you up to speed.

Gmap4 default map: http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php (does not include GIS topo line overlay)

Odd. Just tried and it works for me.
    I'm using Firefox v.26 on a PC

Did you zoom in so the scale in the lower left said 500ft?

What an awesome application. Thank you very much for the link. On my screen the T8 layer shows all my state forrests. is there a way to layer this over the hybrid screen to show the state lands over the hybrid screen?

    Thanks for the kind words.

Both t8 and h (hybrid) are solid layers. Thus you cannot overlay them.

However, if you can find a GIS server that shows the location of those state forests then you can most likely make a Gmap4 liknk that will display that state forest data as an overlay on top of any basemap that is built into Gmap4.

For more info please see: http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4_gis-viewer.html

Although there is not much use for topographic maps on my property, this will help me greatly with WMA's in my area.

    Great job - Thank you!

I see you are in MN. I grew up in Anoka MN but moved to the greater Seattle area in '77. The winters would likely kill me off if I had to move back.

I made some maps for MN and a few other states.
    Start here:
Gmap4 - Share Enhanced Google Maps - Example maps

Look down just a bit to the section titled "Other recreation maps produced by MappingSupport" and click the link at the end of that paragraph.
Then scroll down to the MN maps.

    Enjoy!
