    Odd (to me) buck behavior

Anyone know what this guy is doing ? He does it quite often.

My first thought is that he's nervous being under the feeder....just a guess though.

Look where the raccoons are in relation to his movements? Maybe he can keep a better eye on them when putting his head closer to the ground.

Everyone knows those raccoons are not to be trusted.

Or maybe he's just tired of standing all day.

I'd say he's tired of standing, and eating the lazy way.

use to have a doe years ago do this by me. i always thought she had a shorter neck then the other deer. she either did what that buck is doing or spread her front legs wide to get her head low enough to eat.

I am guessing he has to just dig in face first, whatever you have set up there seems to be working.

Might have a neck injury and can't bend his neck down to the ground. Neck angle appears to be almost the same in every pic. Probably he only way he can get that low.

My guess is that eating corn directly off the ground gets tiresome for some deer, although they do eat acorns seasonally in some areas. Generally deer eat stuff that grows up to them a little bit or that they can reach from their standing position (leaves, crops, early growth wheat). Just a guess though. Since he's not talking we'll all be guessing :D

Very true. Necks position/angle is near identical in every pic. He may not be able to bend his neck from an injury

Looks like my lab when he is trying to rub something off him or has an itch.
