Has anyone came across one on public land? If so, did you steal it?

Reason I'm asking is cause I came across one today after my hunt and IT WAS IN PLAIN VIEW. Anyways I think it is STUPID to set-up a trail cam where many others have access to it... So I'm contemplating whether to take a look at it or not... It bugs me how you can leave something and not expect something to happen to it...

So anyone take one of these public land trail cams before?

Nope, I`ve came across them before, and although curious as to whats on the card I would never touch it. 2 years ago I was taking a p***, turned around only to be caught on trail cam. I thought about taking the card just to erase whatever pics of me it got,and then return it but I left it. I know if it was mine and it was in "plain view" I wouldn't want someone playing around with it.

Never seen one, seen a bunch of stands during mushroom season. Stands are supposed to be taken down by early/mid February.

Never once contemplated stealing one, it's not my land and I didn't pay for it so why should I take it?

Why would you take it if it bothers you that someone would take it? its not yours, its public land so the hunter has a right to have it there, LEAVE IT ALONE!!! Be a man, dont take from others. What if its a young kid and his first cam he saved for months to buy? What if its a new hunters first attempt? Or, what if its another American outdoorsman or women just trying to enjoy the outdoors (witch it more then likely is)? Dont take or mess with whats not yours.

I just had my SD card taken from mine. I was expecting the cam to be taken (sad thats how we think these days) so I guess I was lucky it was just the card, but still made me real mad. No clue why people think its ok to take what isnt theres. Come put a cam on my private land, and I have a new cam. Put a cam in public land and I find it, Ill give it a thumbs up as I walk by and keep walking.

Why would you even consider stealing something? I don't get it.

I assume by "take a look at it" you mean steal it. The world hates a thief, it's public land not a public camera.

Alright good to know everyone on here is pretty cool :)... But I have a confession to make and IK it's wrong and I'm going to "right" my wrong tomorrow... I took the cam but only intentions to see what was on it and then return it... I guess at the moment it sounded like a good idea but going over it I feel AWFUL. Tomorrow when I go out I'm going to return it with a little note on it.

BUT it's probably a good thing I took it because I think the owner didn't know how to turn it on because going over the pictures it didn't have any. So I turned it on for him and is waiting in my pack to return so he will hopefully have some pics of some good bucks.

I feel awful thinking about what I did... I might actually just go return it now, how bad I feel. It is a good walk to the spot but I think it'd be worth knowing.

The only positive thing I can get out of it I guess is knowing I helped him out by turning it on for him... Kinda feel bad also that he left it out there with it not even on.

To me it sounds like you came on here for justifying your actions now, maybe out of guilt. Who knows, but putting it back really doesn't take back you already stole it. What if he went to check it after you left?

    Bad move

I guess you're right... But I think it's highly unlikely that he came back to check it because I just got back from my hunt and already going to go return it.
