With our gun season opening tomorrow and I suspect lots of gun seasons either open or about to open around the country I'm wondering how many of you put the bow down and grab the rifle(or shotgun if that's your states law).
Myself, I've never cared for gun hunting, it felt like I was cheating. I'll kill does all day with a bow but with a gun theres just no rush. I don't like the crowds and all the crazy stuff that goes along with crowds of people. I understand its importance for managing the deer herd though. I'm grabbing the bow and joining the orange army this year like I have in years past, and my son says he's going to bow hunt during gun season this year(I'm so proud). I'm just wondering what the rest of you do.

P.S. No hate on those of you that do gun hunt, just want to make that clear.

Reluctantly, I put down the bow and pick up the 300 ultra mag.

There is one doe that has a death wish. She busted me three times, she is going to die. By bullet.

Next Friday through Sunday I will be out with the 12ga. Its my favorite hunt of the year. Don't get me wrong I'd rather be out with my bow, but I'm the only bow hunter in the family, so that weekend is my only chance at a deer camp.

I just use it as a time to fill the freezer completely. Never been a year where Howe have run out of venison.

Because I'm a hunting nut, I do use a gun for firearms season in Missouri. I also hunt coyotes in the off season with a 22-250. Q

I also use a gun, not as much fun as shooting with a bow and I hate the crowds that show up. I do enjoy the time at the cabin with all the guys though, pretty much the only reason I still gun hunt.

I do gun hunt. Last 2 weeks of November is shotgun. Then December 1-6 is bow again. 6-22 is muzzleloader and then 22-Jan 1 is bow.

Yep. I enjoy muzzleloading and rifle, along with bow. We have a great time every year at our cabin in WV for opening week. Sometimes I bowhunt during gun/ml seasons, it all just depends on the day and what I feel like doing.

No... other than putting lead in turkey's faces... my deer rifles haven't seen the woods since the 90's.

I only gun hunt the six day firearm. All other times it's with a bow.

Yep, I like hunting deer. The bow lets me hunt longer.

I gun hunt same stands and distance as the bow. Deer don't care what I use, neither do I.

Nope. I don't even own a gun I could hunt deer with. If I am in the woods hunting; deer, turkey, whatever, I am using a bow.

Don't believe I can use a bow during our gun season so I will be taking the 7 MAG or the 12ga out!

I started out with a rifle and I can very much appreciate the annual traditions of opening day firearm season, but hunting with a rifle is last option for me. I needed it last year because I was eating tag soup with my bow and had no meat in the freezer. This year is different, I've put down two does already with the bow and am hell bent on filling my buck tag with a bow. I will get my rifle tags again because I have been invited to do a rifle hunt on a friend's property, so I may only sit in a tree with a gun once this year. I know some of you guys feel the same, and this isn't meant to knock firearm hunters, but I always feel like I'm cheating with a gun in my hand, its just not the same as a bow. I used to think my buck fever was bad with a rifle, then I put a bow in my hands and it changed my life forever

Yep sure do gun hunt. Usually only the two main ones then use bow for rest unless need something for freezer then I'll take gun. Its a good change of pace and for me alot less to worry about then when bow hunting. I sit on the ground a lot though and don't sit in a lot of my bow stands.
