I will be this weekend. It's calling for 15-23mph winds. Trying to think of a good strategy for that. Any tips will be appreciated.
Today is my last day of vacation so I'm trying to make the best of it. 5 min after I sat down I had a doe run across the bean field, but I'm not sure what the rest of the night has in store for me. I haven't hunted a lot on windy days.
Recently my only day time pics were taken on two separate days that both had storm winds of up to 60mph. I don't believe the weather effects deer. They live in this everyday. They can't not eat because of wind especially when it's cold wind. If anything they will want to feed more.
I actually believe a good steady wind will increase your chances at a mature deer. From my experiences, it seems that bucks are a little more willing to get up and move around when the winds are blowing and they can move without being heard. Sunday night we had about a 20 mph wind blowing, and for the first time this year I had a mature buck feeding in my beans well ahead of sunset. He fed for over an hour on the field edge. Obviously things change once the rut heats up, but I believe this to be the case when they are not rutting.
I believe you guys are right I have already had a small 8 and a spike walk past. Now it's raining though.
