So my camera man slept in, and told me he wasn't coming at 515am. Didn't see that text til I was almost to the property, or I would have grabbed my video camera...kinda bummed we missed out on filming any of this but oh well. There are more deer... and I have more tags. I sat from 615 til 8:15 before the first lone doe came in. It was so thick, I didn't see here til she was in range. She comes straight downwind of me to an apple tree, and slightly smells me. I have scentlok and take scent seriously and all that stuff, but a mature doe is not dumb... So has an idea and she pegs me when I stand up, and turns and runs back where she came from. I draw and bleat at her to stop, and she stops at 30 yards in the thicket she came from....no shot. I stayed drawn, and she eventually turned and started running back towards the apple tree/past me trying to get by now. I stopped her at 25 and double lung/liver shot her(doe on right). She was quartering away, and I saw the nocturnal fly through her and continue past into the ground...she bounds off quietly, and I never heard a sound after that. I knew I hit her good tho, so I wasn't worried. I decided to give her an hour, while trying to wake up my camera man to come film the recovery and help drag..(he owes me a drag). Bout half hour later another comes in to the apple tree, but did not smell me. She came right to 10 yards, and presented me with a harder quartering away shot. I put it behind the ribcage and it came out in her shoulder as you can see(doe on left). She bolted out of there and disappeared. I heard some crashing so I figured she went down. Figured it was at least lungs, maybe heart. A good buddy of mine showed up, and we tracked the early doe first...turns out she ran about 50 yards and that's where we found her dead. We drug her out and started on the next. Found this one about the same distance dead. Drug her out as well. All around it was a great morning, as I have never doubled up before!! Heading over to my buddies where they are hanging tonight, to butcher them up!!! Here is my face after I shot the first doe, happy! Been waiting to shoot a deer all year! Here is a video I took on my phone, hope this works: End result:
