After many years of hunting public ground an spending alot of $ leasing property I am happy to say that I am purchasing my own piece of hunting ground. To say that I am excited about this is the understatement of the year! It's 65 acres of prime hardwood ridges and draws that adjoins a 1500 acre tract of property that has been highly managed for the past 20 years. I will begin to add pictures to this thread once I have closed on the property and begin to make improvements. The surveyor is out there today and the loan closing should happen withing the next 4 weeks or so. I plan on adding a small hunting cabin and creating a couple of small food plots on the property. I will update with photos as I go. The property owner gave me permission to go ahead move my feeders and camera's out to the property so I could begin to inventory what's around. I plan on getting out there this weekend to set them up. I can't wait to document this process from start to finish.
Congrats!!!! I know you will but please do everything you can to help manage the deer there that the 1500 acre ranch owner has worked his butt off to manage...be a partner and not a parasite. I've been in the other point of view (though not 1500 acres but 350) for three years wit ha guy that takes and doesn't give back and it sucks. Best wishes!
CONGRATS!!!!!!!! My wife and I did the same exact thing almost a year ago to the day! we bought our 40 acres and are so happy! cant wait to hear/see the progress! just remember, you have the rest of your life to get things done....take it very slowly and enjoy, don't get overwhelmed!
Very very awesome!! Ginormous congrats!! I can't wait to some day be in the same shoes and managing my own property.
Really? Not if they are responsible and serious about sustaining quaility deer and hunting. Food, Habitat and herd management. Odds are the ranch is practicing QDMA and not too many people argue against it. The only "goals" that would conflict is the mindset of slaughtering as many deer as possible and/or not contributing to the herd at all. My neighbor happens to be one of the folks that just wants to invite his buddies and shoot anything that looks like a deer regardless of age, size, etc...and only plants an acre and a half for doves....
You sound like a d0uche who is upset that his neighbor shot one of 'your' bucks. Some people just enjoy getting out in the woods. Some people just want to fill the freezer with meat. As long as it's legal, you shouldn't think lesser of hunters who may not have the same management goals as you do.
Congrats! That's been my dream for a long time and will probably continue to just be a dream for a long time. Enjoy every second of it!
