A lot of times when Im in my stand I feel like im sticking out like a sore thumb. find a good tree to get me close to where they are coming in but no cover in the tree. Find a tree with good cover and its to far from where I want to be. But this looks like it might work wonders, Think im gonna give it a try!! Tell me what you think
I like cover as much as the next guy but you are still creating something that wasn't there before. Even it is natural cover they still look right at it. I would rather go higher and sit STILL then do that.
I feel the way you do, and like a little cover. what I do is weave cedar branches in the mesh of the bottom of my tree stand. Its natural, and give me a little something between me and the deer below me. I think it is totally unnecessary, but it makes me feel better, therefore I do it. it's all about confidence really.
Good idea, but remember, those leaves will die and fall off. Best to put them behind you to break up your silhouette.
I totally agree. Deer know where EVERYTHING is in their environment and they can spot any "abnormality" immediately. If you don't believe it, break a big branch about eye level from the ground, on a trail that you can see from your tree, and watch what the deer do when they walk in.
That depends on the area you're hunting. If you hunt in an area where there's a lot of traffic animal or human, foliage changes quite a bit. Branches being broken and trails being cut anew happen all the time. I've been brushing in my treestands for years and it helps A LOT. I even know of some hunters that have bought fake garland to hang from behind their treestands to break up their outline. Sent from my iPhone 5 or iPad Mini using Tapatalk
I like the idea!!! They guys that say you are adding a blob that wasn't there before don't make sense to me. If your sitting in that stand wont it make a blob that wasn't there before also. I think a blob that is of natural cover is better then a blob of you sitting in the tree alone.
You are right except for the natural cover and person blob the deer are going to be looking at both so you make a move you're cooked. If you find a tree that doesn't have cover you are better off getting above 22' the attaching cover. Because the way deer have to look up they are going to miss it. Or what I do is hang the stand on the back side of the tree and lean around it.
I did this ONCE. I hung my stand on the back side of a big fork in a tree. I did some practice drawing of the bow before hand and thought it would be work. When the deer showed up, I went to draw and the deer saw me. being behind the fork, it did not realize it was in trouble and walked towards me! I ended up leaning through the fork as far as I possible could to get the shot off because the deer ended up too close. at the moment of the shot, I wasn't even touching my tree stand anymore. I killed the deer, but I was totally busted. I set up now so I dont have to stand up, just grab the bow and shoot, much less drama that way. side note on the cedar branch idea: no leaves to fall off
