If anyone is thinking about adding something semi-permanent to their home shooting range, here's a target stand that I just finished for my back yard. Might give you some inspiration or place to start. This started as a scribble on a sheet of paper in the afternoon, and a finished target the following morning........those with some actual skills could probably do a much better job but it came out as envisioned and that's always a plus. That and it's rock solid. Components (2) 10ft 4x4's (treated) (1) 8ft 4x4's (treated) (3) 8ft 2X4's (treated) (1) Sheet of clear corrugated roofing material (96") (1) small box 3.5" wood screws (1) small box roofing screws (with the neoprene collars) (6) 6 x 1/2" lag bolts (2) eye bolts (2) "S" hooks Bag target is a Morrell "Outdoor Range" (29" x 31") Build is beyond simple....... The legs and feet are both made up of the 10ft 4x4's simply ripped in half. This keeps the bag up nice and high and promotes a more level shooting experience and no bending to pull arrows. The legs are bolted at the bottom center with (2) lag bolts on each side offset for strength. The top rail is bolted down through the top with the remaining (2) Lag bolts The roof is just (2) of the 2x4's in a frame and anchored on an angle at the top of the legs(48" front to back so that you can cut the roof sheet exactly in half and overlap in the center to cover the roof entirely. I sealed the seam with a little liquid nails for added strength) Position the roof frame on an angle and so that the clear sheeting rests on the center top rail for additional screw anchoring. The clear sheeting was the most expensive component but its good stuff and keeps the light on the target and eliminates extra shadows. The bag is 29" wide and I think the roof itself is 44" wide so it really keeps the target nice and dry. Adjust the dimensions to accommodate whatever bag target you prefer. My suggestion would be to build for the largest target that you MIGHT want someday. I already knew I wanted a big Outdoor Range bag because of its size and durability (and that I will be shooting at it out to 60 yards) and built the dimensions around that target. Total cost of listed materials /hardware was about $90? With the bag target the total is right about $200 and it should be a nice long term investment. I finished off the whole thing with small pieces of flat gray stone stenciled with yardage markers out to 60 yards and inlet them flush into my yard so I can leave the rangefinder in the house. It's sooooooooo nice to just be able to pop outside at anytime and shoot with no effort , no rigging up a target, and no yardage calculations. If you have the room to put one of these in, this is the best thing since Double Stuff Oreos.
Nice work....looks like one I saw out near Curwensville, PA. I need some more flat at my house to do this. What's your doe tag status this year Matt? If you don't have plans to apply for a 3rd, do it and do it for 3B.
VERY NICE .......... But you forgot some hooks in the roof structure so you can walk up and HANG your bow while pulling arrows.. Keeps the cam's good and clean of dust/sand.. Very nice set up. Looks sturdy and will last a while..
Looks great. my buddy and i built a couple with the same frame type as yours last year in the garage and they held up good but they don't look nearly as good as yours
I thought about adding a couple.....and might still for friends shooting with me. I use one of those little plastic folding kickstands that I can snap on my limb and leave my bow back on range without laying it flat in the grass. That way I don't even have to carry it to the target. The only points of contact are the 2 tips of the kickstand and the tip of the stabilizer. Conservation of energy. After years of shooting 3D the act of putting that on the limb and then taking it off and sliding it in my hip quiver is second nature. I just threw the bow in the picture for scale.
Hey,who's the new guy? That set up looks familiar. I built mine out of left over materials from our house. Of course, mine is a little more permanent. And I suck with wood,do much better with steel.

Very Nice! The kids and I still just pull out 3-4 targets and sit them around the yard...don't have a real good spot for permanent location...sure handy to have that ready to go at all times!
Built this about 20 years ago. The next one will be wider. Old pic, now has a Morrell hanging and a Rinehart under it.
