Every now and then PA produces a mid-West size whitetail... And then what seems like all too common news in PA, it was poached... 188" PA Whitetail... Seems the guy was turned in, he shot and tagged a 5 pt in bow season, shot this one on a drive when it jumped up behind him while he was driving. It supposedly let him walk by at 20 yards then jumped up to run out the back of the drive. Someone turned him in because he put the picture up with his 5 pt on his FB page... glad this poacher was caught. The poachers name is Scott M. Garner, 33, of Bainbridge, Lancaster County,
But wait....he was on a drive with other people that had tags. Leave him alone! As long as someone has a tag for it....who cares! Mind your own business.
In PA, it's illegal to shoot 2 bucks, it's illegal to shoot an animal and have someone else tag it. He tagged the 5 point he shot in archery season... he fudged that tag and tagged this buck... again, illegal. No, no one is reaching, he poached the deer, knowingly and wantingly... ecorrigan, do you support poaching? I know Dan is being sarcastic.
Dan needs this is his post . . . If he couldn't resist temptation he shouldn't have been in the woods
What happened to him? I hope he's done hunting in PA personally. Have no sympathy for people knowingly breaking a law such as this. He just possibly took the buck of a lifetime away from a law abiding hunter.
Up to 90 days in jail, $6500 in fines, 3 yrs hunting license revocation..(from what I'm reading thus far... I'm sure it'll be plea bargained. HARRISBURG – A Lancaster County resident was cited for poaching a record-book class buck, according to charges filed by Pennsylvania Game Commission in the court of District Justice William Wenner, in Harrisburg, on Dec. 7. Credit: Lori Neely/PGC Photo. Caption: Dauphin County WCO Mike Doherty holds the antlers of an illegally taken buck from Londonderry Township, Dauphin County, that green-score it in the top 25 of Pennsylvania's All-Time Big Game Records. Get Image Wildlife Conservation Officers Mike Doherty of Dauphin County, and John Veylupek, of Lancaster County, filed the charges against Scott M. Garner, 33, of Bainbridge, Lancaster County, who was charged for exceeding the bag limit for antlered deer in a license year by killing a second buck. Under long-standing bag limits, Pennsylvania hunters are limited to one antlered deer per license year. On Dec. 1, Garner killed a 14-point buck in Londonderry Township, Dauphin County, during the two-week firearms deer season after having killed a five-point buck in archery season on Oct. 31. He re-used and altered his buck tag, originally used on the buck taken on Oct. 31, to tag the second buck illegally harvested on Dec. 1. For killing the 14-point buck, Garner faces penalties of up to 90 days in jail and an enhanced fine of $6,500 since the size of the deer’s antlers are considered trophy class under Game Commission regulations. He also faces up to three years revocation of his hunting and trapping privileges in Pennsylvania. Had the 14-point buck been lawfully taken by a hunter, with a Boone & Crockett green-score of 172.5 inches, it would have placed it in the top 25 for typical deer taken with a firearm in Pennsylvania’s All-Time Big Game Records
I read about this a week or so ago. It's a damn shame. Its crap like this that give us hunters a bad name. Also, its probably some of the reason that bucks in PA don't live long enough to reach mature status. I know or hear all too often about this sort of thing going on. Every once in a while, you'd love to hear about a guy killing a buck like this in PA legally.
Reusing a tag on a buck, bad idea. Reusing a tag on a state record buck really bad idea. This guy must be a total dumbass.
I agree with Muzzyman88 Every once in a while, you'd love to hear about a guy killing a buck like this in PA legally. Should be a guy like Rob/PA instead of the buck named after him a Rob Buck!!! Rocky
Face book catches another MORON, He put up both pictures of the deer in the same year??? When only one is legal??? Good plan.
