I need some advice for my first time Elk hunt at Idaho unit 65, ( including unit 67). This my first time out of Iowa for out of state hunt, first time public hunt, first time Elk hunt. I bought Idaho Elk tag unit 65,67,64. My plan to hunt second and third week of September. Plan camp hunt for couple day and come back motel Brigss area for shower and refill food then come back to camp hunt again. If you know that areas, can you give me advice which motel I can stay, where public area I can park my truck to get in forest. Do I need to bring pistol with me? Any information about this unit is help. I know zero about this unit. Last year on my way family vacation to Yellowstone I drove through victor, brigss, that is all I know. Thank a lot for your input Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Get good hiking boots lol....non motorized roads all thru the mountains. Sent from my VS990 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
To my knowledge and per fish and game you can not use anything on non motorized areas. No loading in or out. All the red is non motorized. Sent from my VS990 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Thanks, do you know local horse back which I can rent if I lucky to shoot one. I did load many whitetail in Iowa but for Elk in Idaho mountain I don't think it is easy job for me. I need a back up plan for it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Im not sure of any, but I'm sure there is around here Sent from my VS990 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
You are only a couple units from where I live an hunt. Never hunted those units. But have heard of some nice bulls come out of them. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
I'll be having vacation around the first and second week of September. But I'll be in a different unit. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Do you carry pistols with you when you hunt? Do you camp hunt? I plan camp hunt but I scare bear around me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The game department prefers you to carry Bear spray when you are hunting. But around camp I always have a side arm on me. If it's the weekend I usually camp since my daughter's are out of school. But during the weekday it just depends on if we have a sitter for them. I can be to my one of my hunting spot in no more than 45 minutes from my house. Just depends on summer scouting for me on where an if I am gonna camp more or not. Sent from my XT1585 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
It can range from 60-80°+ during the day an nights can get into the teens an lower. Just depends really. I'd bring wide range of clothes to cover all weather. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Hunted 62 a few years ago. It was before wolves. We saw some elk, lots of moose and only 1 bear. I'd carry spray, always do.
Here's a pic to help get you excited for your elk trip. Just a little guy tho Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Awesome pics. I'd take em. This muley is on the wife's hit list for her first deer ever an gonna be archery. Hopefully she can close the deal. This muley an elk are from the same cam. Which ever one makes a mistake first is hopefully gonna be hanging in the shop. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
