I got my guide license this year to help out a little more seriously with Lost Mountain Outfitters. I guided my first hunter yesterday, a 9 year old young man with a bull tag. He was cool as a cucumber, and shot a 5X5 at 200 yards. There were 7 bulls, and as I coached him through no, no, wait, wait, get ready, wait, not yet, let's move, he's the one highest up, are you on him, ready, ok, are you on him? shoot, bang. The bull took a step and humped up. I said "hit him again", bang! He took 3 steps and went down. All of this was over a 10 minute period with 3 re-positions over about 200 yards before the first shot. He busted him twice at 200 yards and scored on his first elk. Hunter Dougherty was awesome. He hasn't killed a deer yet, but he's got himself a 5X5 bull elk. Second coolest thing I've experienced while hunting, second only to my daughter's turkey kill. I'm addicted to elk hunting... LMO had their best opening morning ever, killing 6 bulls, one loss, and another good bull Saturday afternoon. Largest score- wise grossed 326. The two most impressive bulls had a lot of broken tines, but were massive. Great weekend, and can't wait to go back.
Yes it was. I had a journalist follow me for 40 minutes to the processor with that load. He asked me a couple of questions, and asked me if he could take some pics . I told him, "all of the lucky hunters are right there, ask them...." He "interviewed" all the hunters and took pics to put in his weekly newspaper in a small community in Wolfe County. Can't wait to read his article.
Nice Looking elk. BTW I tried to look up the outfitter see what its all about but the website doesn't seem to work or exist. Anyhow something isn't right. Congrats to the boy. Im still looking for my first elk. lol
