I drew my first ever Bull Elk tag for Nevada. I will be hunting north of Elko. The season starts August 16. I have never hunted Elk before and was wondering if anybody could give me some information on what their habits and patterns will be like at that time of year. I'm not asking for peoples hunting spots, just information about the characteristics of the animals. Thanks.

Wolfpack, congrats on the tag... that's a neat area. The last two weeks of August the bulls will be in bachelor groups most likely and should be in their summer patterns for sure. Water will be absolutely key that time of year. If it were me, I would either sit water if you can find where they are drinking or destination food/travel routes in the evening. I'd sit water or travel routes in the morning for sure.
