After many months of planning, I'm finally embarking on my first western hunt. Left last night around 6 for the 21 hour drive and broke down in Springfield, Mo. Long story short, we spent the night, lost about 12 hours and got a new oil pressure sensor this morning and we're back on the road.

Wish us luck, because we'll need it to get within bow range of these desert ghosts.

Good luck!! This is the best time of year to hunt Coues deer. Move around from vantage point to vantage point...however once your into deer keep your *** planted behind the tripod until you find the right one in the right spot. Good luck

Did you guys know west Texas can have a blizzard?

Tacking on another 3 hours south towards El Paso for a detour as our route through New Mexico is getting hammered with a foot of snow. Still driving slow through a wintery mix currently, but it's manageable.

Good luck and be safe! West Texas is one of my most favorite places to bow hunt.... Used to make the trip every winter when I was visiting my dad in north Texas and hunt a few days.....good luck in NM !

Drove 30 mph from midnight to 7 before pulling over for an hour. We have lost about 2 days now, but the weather is looking a little more promising and we are still headed towards Coues Country.

I love Texas from all my other visits, but at this point I'll be glad to not see it for a while lol.

We've been in them on the first day. Walked up to 15 yards on a muley doe (not legal), and then a few minutes later I got to within 35 yards of a small muley buck but could not get a shot. I want a coues, but I won't slap a gift horse in the mouth.

In our current spot, we have glassed 6 deer. 3 muley does, and a slob of a coues buck chasing 2 does that seemed to of just disappeared in some brush.

The scenery isn't half bad either up on this mountain.

We didn't get stuck, but I would be lying if I said pulling the enclosed trailer around wasn't a butthole puckering experience.

Have some service on the rock I'm on right now. Came into the same drainage as yesterday, but accessed it from the west. As me and Kyle battled the rock cliff we were running into I saw a deer. We ended up having 4 coues does, 1 as close as 5 yards mingle around for a few minutes. I got some pretty cool video I'll post later.

Soon after, Kyle found the coues buck I saw last night. He's a good one. He was 600 yards out with some does in a good spot to stalk. We started moving and spotted another buck 200 yards aways. We couldn't get on him though as he had us picked. We haven't found the big boy again, but we will. All in total I think we've seen 10 coues this morning.

I just wish we had more time. With the break down and storm delay we lost 2 days of hunting and the season ends the 31st.
