So, what's everyone's story? I'm Spencer. I'm a biology major at the University of South Dakota. I work as a fish biologist during the summer at Gavins Point National Fish Hatchery. I enjoy all forms of hunting, but archery is my passion. I'm also a big fisherman and love my Minnesota Vikings. This is shaping up to be my best archery season, yet. I recently gained permission to two new spots, which are going to hold some good deer! I've got a couple cameras up right now and I hope to get the rest of the fleet out this weekend. I've been a rifle hunter all my life, but this is only my third year of archery.
My name is David, I hunt in Southeast S.C. I am part of a hunting lease, and also hunt public land. I've gun hunted for the last 20 years, and just started bow hunting last year and haven't picked the rifle up since. I was lucky enough to take my first with a bow last year an eight point, looking forward to meeting yall and hopefully sharing some pictures and stories!
My name is Chris and I'll be hunting private land on two locations in north Louisiana that total about 300 acres and have a good deer population. I'm a 32 year old college student, taking core courses at a community college with plans to transfer into Louisiana Tech's forestry program either this spring or next fall. Whitetail hunting is my main outdoor activity but I also fish a good bit and I will be trying my luck hunting waterfowl this year.
I will be hunting mostly private land here in Northeast PA...although (if you know anything about hunting in PA) many others will be hunting the same property as well. Also planning a 1 week hunt to MO to hunt with my brother. This is my first time, and sort of a 40th b-day present from my wife. Looking forward to a great season.
Checking in. Looking forward to a good season. Shot a doe and a 138" buck last year. I have a feeling this year could be even better! Good luck guys.
We'll take that all day! This is my third year in the contest. I have been on a drought the last couple of seasons due to widespread EHD in 2012. To give you an idea of how low the population has become where I hunt, the county went from giving out 350 rifle buck tags in 2011 to 20 rifle buck tags in 2014. Numbers are back on the rise, but we're a long ways from what we were.
I'll be doing most of my hunting in Morgan, Co. in west central IL. Uncle owns just under 70 acres but it's surrounded on all sides by woods. While I don't have the benefit of field edges, ag fields or food plots it normally gets a lot of traffic and bedding. Due to work and distance I don't really get to scout, put out a couple trail cams on my first hunt and take them out on my last. Mainly just like to see what is moving through and get a good idea when the bucks are starting to wander about. I generally see and/or get a crack at a good buck each season. Took a mid 140's in '11, shot 3" under a near 160 in '12 and took a decent 129 4/8 last season. Have a few decent bucks from last year that are hopefully still around, really not sure of the effects EHD had on the local herd. Looking forward to sharing hunts with everyone this season, I post a lot in the live from the stand thread when on stand. Hoping to get in the 200 point club this year with any luck. Season opens Oct. 1, but not sure when I'll get out for my first hunt, temperature dependent. One thing is for certain. I'll be on my rutcation November 7th through the 16th, all day sits until I get it done or run out of daylight.
